What’s New in the Studio?

REALISM IN OIL PORTRAITURE On Saturday October 1, I completed my first four-week "Realism in Oil Portraiture" class at the Naperville Art League. The picture at left is the demo painting I did to instruct the class. Even though it is unfinished, you'll recognize right away that it is of my husband Marc, (if you know him, that is!)

Beginning October 22, I will host another four-week session at Naperville Art League. All levels are welcome, and the vibe of the location and the students is fantastic. You can register online at:

My painting, ”Kathak Dancer” (detail below), is nearing completion. I only have a little more detailing left to do on it. I hope you have enjoyed seeing how it progressed from an oil wash to a refined composition over the course of several months.. I will enter it in the National Portrait Society's annual annual member's competition next month. If you are interested in commissioning a portrait, please contact me at

In other news, I will be a featured speaker at this year's SEA (Self-employment in the Arts) conference to be held October 28, 29 and 30th at the Sheraton Grand Chicago. As part of the conference, In addition to panel discussions and mentoring, I'll be presenting “Chicago Architecture and Urban Planning,” a walking tour of Millennium Park on Friday October 28 at 4:30-5:30 PM.
