Make Room for Contemplation in the New Year

Every January, I make personal reflection a priority. This is the time I set aside for asking, "What do I want to bring into my life this year?"

If you have never asked yourself this question, let 2026 be your year to inaugurate this valuable life venture into conscious living and manifestation. What is important to you? What goals do you have for the coming year? Which goals no longer serve you?

I begin by writing a brief summary on an 8.5" x 8.5" sheet of bright white paper. I usually write in complete sentences, but bullet points work, too. Based on what I want to bring into my life, I then develop goals in these categories: personal (including health and spirituality), professional, and financial. I complete the process by assigning a word that summarizes the entirety of what I want to bring into my life, like love, acceptance, abundance.

This is what I do to set my personal GPS for the coming year. You might approach it differently, but the important point is to actually sit down and do it, and reflect upon your writing often throughout the year.

I'd like to share with those of you who want to make creativity of any type a priority in 2026 my Artist's Prayer, inspired by the writing of Marianne Williamson:

Dear Ineffable One,

I would like to use the gifts you have given me in greater service to you and others, to express myself and bring others joy, purpose and light. I trust you will lead, guide and direct me on this path. Unfold my life according to your plan. Creativity is your nature and we are all made in that image and likeness. Send your Divine Creativity to flow through me and outward as a manifestation of my love for you and my gratitude for the life you have given me.

Help me to dispel negativity from within and without. Inspire lovingkindness within me in all my relationships. Help me to believe it is not too late to be all you intend for me to be. Thank you for all you have given me to heal my life and fulfill my life’s purpose.   AMEN
